Shock as I abandon Apple for Microsoft

Yes, serious failings have led me to abandon Apple for Microsoft products

Mighty Mouse

The Apple Mighty Mouse is pretty good as far as I am concerned, but it has one fatal flaw, the "nipple ball" collects gunk over time and despite all cleaning attempts, eventually it becomes unusable.

I've got a Mac Pro, the famously quiet workstation

Dell Powerconnect 2716

These are quite nice little switches for home networking purposes, gigabit capability with jumbo frames, 16 ports, no fan, 12W power conumption and a basic managed capability for the adventurous.

More Mac only stuff

One of the frustrations I have with accessing my Cortex computer remotely using RDC sessions from a Mac is the lack of a key mapping for \ (backslash). This can be infuriating when you want to enter a file path, for example.

chMox replaced by iCHM

Ever since I switched to the Mac I have used CHMox to read the Cortex help files on my local desktop whilst using RDC to remotely administer Cortex.

But recently I have come across iCHM and it completely blows CHMox away. Built-in search and a multi-tabbed interface make reading and cross-referencing much easier. Well worth a donation.

My trial of Blogo has finished. In some respects it's really nice.

BootCamp and Digicams collide

When you create your BootCamp partition, and if you use FAT32 to enable read/write access from OS X, make sure you give it a name.

More fun with MT API

I wanted to try out Blogo, just because, but couldn't get it to work due to an invalid login. There is no console window for debugging, unlike Ecto. Anyway, as usual the Movable Type help is no help. Many mentions of using the web services password. And this is true, you do have to use your web services password.

This is a sort of reminder to myself, but took ages to track down on the web so I might as well post it in case anyone else struggles.

I decided to try external blog editors such as MarsEdit and iBlogger but couldn't get them to work - constant 500 server error. Eventually I got to the bottom of this.
